About the Art Therapists
Kula Moore is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist. She uses both art and traditional therapy to help clients find their voice. Kula supports each person’s natural approach, and provides additional tools to help discover new ways of dealing with old patterns.
Kula started Art Therapy Houston to combine her interests in art, psychology, and wellness. Her early passion and practice in art guides her current work. Kula earned a B.A. in Studio Art and Biology from Baylor University and obtained her Masters in Art Therapy Counseling from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She has worked in community counseling, school, hospital, and outpatient settings. These experiences have shaped her collaborative, creative and practical approach to therapy.
When Kula is not in the art therapy studio, she provides art therapy and psychiatric rehabilitation services to young adults at a leading Houston hospital. Kula is currently researching a mentalization-based approach to art therapy and has presented at conferences and local organizations. She is also an illustrator of children's books promoting multicultural literature in developing countries.
She joyfully lives, works, paints and plays in the great city of Houston.
Kate Marder, LPC, ATR-BC, CPRP
Kate Marder is a Board Certified Art Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, and Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Specialist. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT and obtained her Masters in Creative Art Therapy Counseling from Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY. She has primarily worked in residential, outpatient, and inpatient psychiatric settings Kate’s art therapy approach is informed by training in Mentalizing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and as a yoga teacher (200 hour certification).
Hillery Jones is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Art Therapist. Her passion is in using the creative process to help children, adolescents, and adults gain a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Her approach is client led, practical, holistic, and adaptable in everyday life. She integrates a kinesthetic learning competent of connecting mind and body to her practice. She uses traditional talk therapy and art therapy to meet the unique needs of each individual. Her ultimate goal is to provide you with the tools needed to be the best version of yourself.
Hillery received her B.A. in Art Education from Lamar Univeristy and her M.A. Art Therapy Counseling from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She has worked in school, hospital, residential, and out-patient settings. Outside of Art Therapy Houston, Hillery provides art therapy and counseling services to a local therapeutic school and psychology clinic.
Shani Bell, LPC, ATR
Shani Bell is Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Art Therapist. As a therapist, her skills and training meet her natural compassion and belief in each person’s ability to heal and grow. She endeavors to facilitate restoration and well-being by helping clients to utilize undiscovered strengths. She believes creativity is a universal method of functioning that is not unique to any one type of person. Where appropriate and beneficial, artistic exploration is used in treatment as a means to encourage expression, relaxation, personal insight, problem solving and healing. Shani is a graduate of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a master’s degree in Art Therapy.
